Promotional, audiotext and raffle lotteries, as well as other types of activities listed in Article 2 of the Gambling Act, together constitute the category of games of chance. These are games offering cash or non-cash prizes, the outcome of which depends, in particular, on chance. These, together with pari-mutuel betting, card games and slot machine games, constitute the group of games of chance.
Promotional, audiotext and raffle lotteries
You can take part in promotional lotteries by purchasing the promoted service or product. It is also possible to join the promotion by purchasing proof of entry, such as a ticket. Participants are motivated by the prospect of winning a cash or non-cash prize, whilst the organisers, in turn, hope to boost sales.
Audiotext lotteries may be organised to boost demand for certain goods, or to generate revenue from paid telephone calls or text messages. In this case, participants are also motivated by the prospect of winning a cash or non-cash prize.
Participants in raffles purchase a ticket or other proof of entry into the draw, and can only win non-cash prizes. Under the Act, the proceeds from such events are donated to charitable or socially beneficial causes.
Anyone aged 13 or over may take part in promotional and prize draws. Participants in audiotext lotteries must be of legal age.
